How to Copy the RDS Program from Computer to the HP 48G / GX

 
Note:  Verify that version 1.1 of the RDS Software has been installed.
 
1.  Turn on your computer.
 
2.  If you have windows 3.1, using the Program Manager, go into the group called Main.
 
3.  From the group Main select the MS DOS Prompt.
 
4.  When the DOS screen appears the prompt will be C:\WINDOWS>.  You need to type CD\       and press Enter.  The prompt should now look like C:\>.
 
5.  From C:\> type R and press Enter.  This will bring up the Kermit Server screen.
 
6.  If you are using Windows 95, click on Start, scroll up to Programs, then choose MS DOS Prompt.
 
7.  When the DOS screen appears the prompt should read C:\WINDOWS>. Type CD\ and             press Enter.  The prompt should now read C:\>.
 
8.  Type R and press Enter.  This brings up the Kermit Server screen.
 
9.  Kermit Server will only work on Com ports 1 and 2.  RDS sends a "D" type 9-pin to 4-pin              serial interface cable with the calculator and software.
 
10.  Connect this cable to the appropriate port on your computer and to your HP.
 
11.  With Kermit Server running, turn HP on.
 
12.  Press the green right shift key then the TIC key (this key has the word HOME written above it in green).  This will take you to the {HOME} directory on the HP.
 
13.  Press the green right shift key then the number one key (this key has I/O written above it in green).
 
14.  When the screen changes, use the down arrow and highlight Transfer.
 
15.  Press the white corresponding key for OK.
 
16.  When the Transfer screen comes up the word Port should have Wire beside it.  If the word Wire is not there arrow up to IR, press CHOOS, select WIRE, then press OK.
 
17.  Down arrow to Name.
 
18.  Press the white corresponding key for CHOOS.
 
19.  Highlight Remote PC files then choose OK.
 
20.  At this point you will be communicating with the computer.  If everything has been installed and connected correctly, the screen on the HP should offer the choices of NOV30A.EXE and RDS.
 
21.  Arrow down to highlight RDS and press OK.
 
22.  When the screen changes, RDS should now be highlighted beside Name.
 
23.  Press the white corresponding key for KGET.
 
24.  There will be a total of 118 packets transferred from the computer to the HP.
 
25.  When all of the packets have been transferred, the screen will change back to the Transfer screen.
 
26.  Press the NXT key then press the white key that correspond to CANCL.  This will take you back to the {HOME} directory and RDS should appear in the lower left corner.
 
27.  On the computer press Control and C keys at the same time to EXIT the Kermit Server             and return you to the DOS prompt.
