Text Box: Ecotone™ Water Level Monitor - FAQ

My Water Level Monitor Functions Once then I get a Communications Error.

The Ecotone™ data logger is not communicating with the water level sensor (probe). Verify that the water level sensor is properly connected to the Ecotone™ data logger.

Note: The Ecotone water level sensor MUST be connected prior to inserting the batteries into the data logger. If the batteries were installed when the water level sensor was connected, Remove a battery and wait 5 seconds before re-inserting the battery. This will re-initialize the unit and it will function properly.

The water level data and configuration data will be retained in memory while the batteries are removed.

Why Must I Connect the water level sensor to the Ecotone™  Data Logger before inserting the Batteries?

When the batteries are inserted into the Ecotone™  Water Level data logger, an initialization routine runs which searches for the water level sensor. If the data logger does not find the water level sensor, it cannot properly complete the initialization routine and locks. To avoid this situation, simply connect the water level sensor to the water level logger prior to inserting the batteries.

If the batteries were installed when the water level sensor was connected, Remove a battery and wait 5 seconds before re-inserting the battery. What are the 4 Plastics Pieces and 4 Screws included with My Water Level Monitor?

The four plastic tabs included with the Ecotone™  Water Level Monitor are mounting tabs. They attach to the outside, rear corners of the data logger enclosure with the four screws. These tabs are included for the users who desire to mount the data logger separately from the water level sensor via an optional extension cable.

The tabs are installed by first removing the lid from the data logger enclosure. Place the tab on one of the outside, rear corners of the enclosure. Then, insert the screw through the corner hole in the front of the box (the same hole which the lid mounts). Firmly tighten the screw by inserting the screw driver into the lid mounting hole.

Why Must I use Panasonic Industrial batteries in my Water Level Monitor?

Remote Data Systems, Inc. prefers and recommends the use of Panasonic Industrial Alkaline batteries in Ecotone™ Water Level monitors. It has been discovered, through our research and experience, that Panasonic Industrial Alkaline batteries maintain their integrity in the outdoor environment better than other leading brands.

The use of other brands of Industrial batteries may increase the risk of corrosive damage to the data logger due to acid leakage. Battery leakage is generally caused by compromised battery seals due to exposure to extreme temperatures, commonly experienced in outdoor environments .

NEVER use a non-industrial battery in your Ecotone™ Water Level monitor.
